It has been striking to me, increasingly so over the past months, the voices that are absent in the West. Strangely, I feel they are more present in India, in Pakistan: I mean those who have been most affected by what is happening these days. I read of millions losing their jobs or being furloughed without work, yet they’re silent. How are they managing? What is going on? Even in the most sympathetic newspapers, I read about the riots in the United States and the voices of the protestors are absent. Why are they rioting? I see speculation: they’re “thugs” as a foul-mouthed human slug would have, they’re “from out of town”, they’re disaffected black youth, they’re white supremacists, they’re part of the Electric Boogaloo, they’re people who’d like a new TV. I daresay they’re all or many of these types of people, but they largely appear to be an inhuman tidal wave of rage.
I imagine there will be many more such waves in the months and years to come, and not just in the United States.
